Matthew Odenwald, MD, PhD, will join the DFI as an Assistant Professor in April, 2024. Currently an Advanced Gastroenterology Fellow and Instructor in the Department of Medicine, Matt obtained both his doctorate and medical degrees at the University of Chicago. During his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology, he developed an interest in the complexity of caring for patients with liver disease. He joined Eric Pamer's laboratory in the summer of 2021 where he studied the impact of the intestinal microbiome on the development of liver disease and its complications, including the predisposition to drug resistant infections. For his first project with the DFI, Matt will lead a Phase I study of microbiome augmentation in patients with cirrhosis.
